What is a companion service/life Doula ?
The word doula has roots in ancient Greek and originally referred to someone who offers devoted support and care. In that spirit, an End of Life Doula is an independent practitioner or consultant who provides compassionate guidance and practical support to those who are dying and to their loved ones—much like a birth doula supports the beginning of life.
Who needs one?
Just as you might prepare a Will, you may choose to engage an End of Life Doula early—to help clarify your end-of-life wishes, complete an Advance Care Directive, or create a Funeral Plan. Others may seek this support following a diagnosis.
Whether you're planning ahead or navigating a current situation, an End of Life Doula can provide steady, compassionate support for both you and your family—emotionally, practically, and personally.
How does it work?
With 28 years as a nurse, I’ve chosen to step outside the medical system to offer something more personal. After navigating my own mum’s end-of-life wishes with my family, it became clear how valuable it is to have one consistent, trusted person—someone who can support and guide without the emotional toll falling solely on loved ones.
As an End of Life Doula, I’m here not as your nurse, but as a steady companion to walk alongside you and your family—offering practical, emotional, and non-medical support, your way. Let’s connect and see how I can best support you.
What does it cost?
Once we meet, we can work out a package that feels right for you and your family. To give you a general idea, the average rate is between $85–$140 per hour, plus travel time, depending on the level of support required.
I’m happy to tailor something that suits your needs and circumstances.
